A couple of years back, using “tweet” in any conversation would have merited one a blank, likely judgmental, stare. Today, it translates to the recognition of opportunities for people from different industries. Companies that are at the forefront of providing link building services have been known to particularly pay interest to this social media site. With how amazingly interlinked the online community is, Twitter could have easily been contended with its intended use – letting others know what one is doing, in 160 characters or less. It has become a link building gold mine, especially with the strategic use of SEO key words in tweets.
How does one go about optimizing their twitter accounts for link building?
- Bit.ly links. Users – more importantly, experts in extremely specialized fields and professions- can easily relay to their followers a shortened link to an article of interest (why not yours?). Moreover, it provides what RSS feeds cannot – easy interaction.

- Username. Selecting the most frequently searched name for your brand or company as the Twitter account name would be a good way to start. - Retweet. To make use of one of its best features – re-tweeting – leave a few characters allowance for followers to comment on it. This makes the re-tweet less like a marketing campaign and more as a resource of genuine interest.
